Did you know that you have the power to change your own life?
We, every day, create our own realities. In the things we believe, the words we say, the actions we take, and the choices we make. We are our own spell-casters, prayer-answerers, life-givers, and magic-makers.
But so often, so many of us - myself included - just kind of cruise through life on autopilot. We get so used to routine, so used to our norms of daily existence that we operate mostly through muscle memory. And where that can be convenient, it does nothing to help our future selves.
When was the last time you noticed the mug you grabbed to hold your coffee in the morning? Even if the mug you use every day is a favorite, when was the last time you actually took notice of it? Or the jewelry you put on? When was the last time you intentionally made a cup of soup to soothe your soul? Or took a step back to appreciate the beauty of the surrounding area in which you live?
These little moments make up the core of our existence. We don’t live exclusively in the big feelings and big emotions. Big events generally aren’t an everyday thing. But those small moments… are infinite. What we do and how we do them affects our present, and affects the life we want to live.
Creating a different life for ourselves begins on the small scale first. If we want to start a writing practice for example, we need to take some time with the written word every day. If we just glaze from thing to thing, we leave no time for anything new, so how can we expect anything new to happen or unfold?
Start by making one promise to yourself, one small act that helps you work toward something you’ve always wanted. Do it consistently. And watch how your life begins to change.
We create our own realities, in everything we do. Why not then use that space to create the life we’ve always dreamt of?
