To begin at the beginning...

“Let’s start at the very beginning… a very good place to start…” ~ “Do-Re-Mi,” (Sound of Music)

Well, to start, I’m of the musical/theatrical sort who often uses book, film, television, or otherwise-scripted quotes to emphasize or make a point… in case that wasn’t obvious by my opening statement. 😜

For those who don’t know me, my name is Jenn (2 Ns, please), and I am the curator of Dove and Blackbird. As of this posting, I am the solitary creator/designer/poster/administrator of all things D/B. It may be a lot for one person, but my work here comes from my very soul. It is a core element of who I am. It is 100% worth it and I am SO grateful to be able to share it with you. 💖

There is simultaneously much, and very little, to know about me. On the surface, I am a career musician and my “day job” is teaching private voice and piano lessons to students ranging in age from 5 to 60+. I am heavily involved in community theatre often serving as music director and occasionally taking part in onstage performances. I am a self-professed nerd/geek and love all things geek culture including, but not limited to: Doctor Who, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Neil Gaiman, Sherlock, LOST, Harry Potter, LOTR, superheroes, tabletop gaming… you get the picture. I am happily married to my best friend and the love of my life, Tom, and we currently reside in northeast PA with our feline fur-baby, Meeko Buttercreme.

On the not-so-surface… well, I have had some less-than-stellar experiences. I don’t want to get TOO personal in the very first blog post, but I can honestly say I’ve seen the darker side of myself, and of humanity. I’ve been in the proverbial trenches and have survived to tell my story. My experiences are largely what have shaped me and motivated me to start Dove and Blackbird. Basically, I know it because I’ve lived it. And I want to be able to take that suffering and use it to help others become their very best selves.

Spiritually speaking, I’m a label-free Spirit seeker. I no longer subscribe to an organized religion, but my practice is rooted in a combination of Catholic, Buddhist, and ancient traditions. I connect with Spirit every day through meditation, prayer, card-slinging, crystals, music, and energy work. I journal frequently and am on a constant journey of self-reflection, self-discovery, and self-awareness. Through this process, I have worked through much of the trauma of my past and am on a path of healing and positivity. In my experience, it’s the only way to live!

So what other factors have influenced this creation of Dove and Blackbird? Well, first off, I am an Empath - (means I easily feel/sense the emotions of others) - which has been both a blessing and a curse throughout my entire life. In learning how to navigate those waters, I have strengthened my intuitive abilities. I experience the “clairs” on a regular basis (clairvoyance, clairsentience, claircognizance, and clairaudience primarily), and yes, I sometimes see and/or talk to dead people. I have been reading cards - mostly Tarot - for close to 20 years. There were times I stepped away (Thanks, past trauma), but no matter what happened, they always found their way back to me - whether I wanted them to or not lol! I have to say, other than my husband, and a piano, nothing else feels like “coming home” than holding a Tarot deck in my hands. I am also Reiki 3 certified, and I have studied with some wonderful people in a number of areas including Reiki, Shadow work, Mediumship, Card Reading, Meditation, Manifestation/Law of Attraction, and more. I have guided/counseled people (though NOT as a licensed professional, of course) for the majority of my life, and I find great joy in helping others heal and move forward. That's ultimately why I'm here. Everything else is just method or tools I use to do so.

Ok, I’ve bantered enough for one blog post. If you want to know more, just ask! I do want to say though, how truly truly grateful I am that you have found your way here to this soul-child site of mine. I sincerely hope you find what you’re looking for here - or at least the path to get there. You are welcomed. You are loved. And I wish love, light, and blessings to each and every one of you.

Namaste
